composing a note
found typewriter, wind chimes
Composing a Note is a translation machine built on miscommunication. A typewriter is connected to a hanging array of wind chimes—each keystroke sends a hammer forward and produces a note, or sometimes just a clatter. Writing becomes a kind of performance, language rendered into unintended melody.
The work plays with the limits of symbolic systems—how meaning shifts when it's forced through the wrong medium. Words become gestures, sentences turn into soundtracks, and intention is quickly drowned out by tone. It’s part score, part sculpture, part joke the machine plays on itself.
